Running Log :: Bye bye March

March sucked as far as weather goes. There were a couple nice days during March Break but that was it. It was a good month for mileage buildup though. With todays run I got 111 miles in this month and my first Around The Bay race. I can’t complain about this month other then the fact that my legs are very tired. Very beat up. Today’s run I pushed a bit hard and my shin is sore. I’ll have to get a nice long slow run in this weekend. Todays run was 5 miles in 40 min for an average pace of 8 minute miles but I did the first very slow and the last much slower. The middle three miles were at about 7:20 pace. Anyhow it was very encouraging month for running.

Workout :: not much in the tank

There wasn’t really much left in the tank after yesterdays run but I’m determined to get myself back to where I was last September. I worked on the shoulder (Right one that was seperated), chest, arms and abs. In reality they all work that shoulder out as it’s strength and sore spots are ever healing. I did standing shoulder presses, cross cables and decline crunch with 10lb weight. The decline crunches were left at 10lbs as the abs also got a workout during the run and there wasn’t much strength left there. I also did cable curls, reverse cable curls, hanging leg raises and incline hammersmith bench. It was a good workout and great way to start the week. Tried to get on the elliptical but the legs told me it was time to leave!

Running Log :: Around the bay

My first Bay race and one word, unprepared. I didn’t take this race seriously enough and even if one doesn’t see it as “important” as far as my road to Boston the body can only take so much punishment and that is what I delivered to my body, PUNISHMENT! I will never again make light of training or the importants of a well rounded live. Excesses in one area can only tip the scales to that area. Lack of dicipline in other areas will lead to a lack of something in others. This was 30 kilometers of beating. My body took a beeting. I’m greatful for having completed it but can assure you I will never run a race like that again, underprepared. I look forward to redemption next year, well even this year during the racing season. Let’s get running.

Running Log :: Storm

Bloody winter go away already. This is crazy, woke up to snow and hail storm this morning. I’m so sick of this. Yesterday running in shorts and long sleeve and today on a treadmill. Sunday is the around the bay and looking at the short term forecast I doubt very much that it will be a warm snow free day. There will most likely be snow, at least not on the course. They are calling for a high of 1. My first Bay race and I get a high of 1. Anyhow did 7 mile run today on the treadmill and that might be it for running till Sunday. I’ll see tomorrow how the legs feel and if they are good I might push one more day out of it. If they are even the least bit tired, no more till race day.

Running Log :: Great lunch run

Running in shorts, I know tomorrow is going to be crap out so figured I’d get my lunch run outside today. I just ran till I was done, no goal, no path just running. Was awesome. Just great when you can get outside.

Workout :: REAL ONE

Well my first workout in quite some time. A real workout that is, where I lifted weight and tried dips (with weighted offset). I did some shoulder presses, hammer pec machine, curls, preacher curls, dips, tricep machine, roman chair, decline crunches. Was great workout. Didn’t run. IT band and left hamstring still tight and Around the bay is next weekend.

Running Log :: HIKE I mean

Well Martin and I met up to go for a train run. Can you say MUD. We didn’t get to run but had a great 2 hour hike through the woods and then got lost. You can see where we did a big circle. No coats and we were really getting cold. Anyhow we had an awesome afternoon, have to do it again sometime.

Running Log :: Spring

Now if spring isn’t in the air I don’t quite know what is. Love the mood one finds themselves in in spring. After last nights concert I’ve needed to clear my head more and ever. There is nothing worse than being a emotionaly charged individual. Sometimes I wish I could be cold like some people I know. Display little to know emotion and zombie my way through life. When the frustrations and passions slam into one another creating a tornado of fury the best thing to do is lace up the shoes and run. Had a great mind clearing run in the sun. Nice 4 mile run to finish the work week. Have to get my 19 miler in this weekend.

Sarah Mclachlan

Well it was a great concert. I’m still trying to find out who sang with her for one of the encore songs. The two of them together was amazing and for me the best part of the night. I’ll Have to figure it out. Anyhow here are some of the pics from the night.

St. Patrick’s Day at Slainte Irish Pub

Again this year went to Slainte Irish Pub for my St. Patty’s day lunch of Smithwick’s and Keiths Beer Battered Fish and Chips. The portion is insane. I don’t know why every year I have to order the two pieces and the coleslaw but I do. It’s sitting cooling in my trunk.
