My legs just weren’t 100% recovered from yesterday. I’m building my mileage back up and might be going a bit to agressively. I just need to do some serious stretching. Tomorrow is a rest day anyhow and Sunday I’ll do a relaxed run. It sure is beautiful out there though.

Running Log :: Tired today
Running Log :: Snow covered trail
Went for a run on a very snow covered Chedoke Trail. I hadn’t planned to run 8 miles but that is what I ended up doing and it just wore me right out. Some 4 wheeler must have gone up the trail from bottom to top laying out a good little groove to run within. Had to really watch as the snow was packed, slippery and about 2-3″ thick in most areas. Very uneven which made for great training. Looking forward to my first Bay race.
Running Log :: Indoors at the gym :(
I had to run inside today because of the snow that hit us during the evening and early morning. I really didn’t like going to the gym seeing all my workout buddies knowing I can’t workout. Anyhow I hit the treadmill and my legs didn’t feel great right off the bat. Anyhow I had hoped to run for an hour but decided after 4 miles it was enough. Don’t need to get hurt, also think I might like a new pair of shoes! Did 4 miles in 32:55 for an average pace of 8:15 minute miles. I was running at an 8 min mile pace except for the first mile.
Running Log :: Up the mountain, down the mountain
I don’t know why they call it the mountain but anyhow up and down today. I ran and did stairs and snow covered trails. It was a great run. Stopped a few times to grab some photos and had a great time in the sun thinking. Anyhow the stats are not really a reflection of speed as I said I stopped along the way and asside from the stairs up at Kenilworth I left the Garmin running.
Running Log :: Awesome out there
It is so nice out there at the moment for a run. -4 with 11km/h winds feeling like -8 and light flurries. Was great, not cold and not to hot as I dressed perfect. I wore the IPhone today and had some tunes going and did a bit of a hilly course. I’m in awe that I managed pump out 9 miles, I think today I could have easily done a half. Anyhow feel like a million bucks in every aspect of my life.
Running Log :: up way to late
Well I was up way to late last night and that affected my recovery, also didn’t drink any water yet today so dehydration was also certainly a factor. It’s all good though. I got through the run and had to take two breaks to really stretch out the left leg. I kept the run to a reletively flat course, little elevation gains but nothing like Chedoke Trail. I did log 6 miles so I’m happy with that as I’m really trying to increase my base mileage for this years training.
Running Log :: Thank goodness for IPHONE
Went out for my run first run of the New Year and my Garmin seems to be dead. Thank goodness for an Iphone, downloaded an app and I hit the streets. It allows for export to GPX which permitted me to upload it to my garmin profile. Anyhow good run, still bit tender behind left knee (hamstring tendon) but all good, it was a hill run with a 300+ elevation gain.
2011 :: What will I do?
Welcome 2011, looking forward to experiencing things with you. With the new year comes the resolutions. I don’t look at the New Year as a time to get rid of bad habits, those are things that should be done along the way when we realize they are bad. It is a time to consider new ways to approach life, things that maybe we should do more of or start doing all together. I guess it’s really a question of half full or half empty. Are you going to “loose weight” this year or are you going to “eat healthy and get in shape”. I find one sounds more positive than the other but they both get you to the same place. One of my first “declarations” (1) is to visit my family more, especially when I have the girls with me. Anyhow who knows me well knows I have a hard time visiting my grandmother as she hasn’t been well and is not the same person that cared for me for so long. Yes you are right, the fact that she cared for me for so long should push me even more to visit more and I will. Resolve number two (2), stand up for what I believe in with full conviction. I will have more time with my girls and have more resources when I am with them. This resolve will also allow me to be divorced by the end of the year. Separation is living in limbo and limbo is great when you are throwing caution to the wind and treating every day like it’s Saturday. I could go on with regards to the second point but it would take away from this… The third point is a goal that I had set for myself which was to be achieved by my 40th birthday. This goal needs to be modified as it won’t happen. There are positives though and that is knowing it’s possible. I was to qualify for the Boston Marathon by 40. This year I hit a Personal Best marathon time of 3:27:17 which was only 7:17 off a qualifying time. I still want to qualify in the 35-40 age category which requires 3:15 but at least now with that run I know I can do it. My fourth resolve (4) is to get into work a bit more. Not become a workaholic but work on my skills a bit. The last two years have been very difficult to focus on skills upgrade just because of circumstances, this year I will work on those and write at least one certification exam. My last one is la piece de résistance, the realization that I HAVE BEEN DOING GREAT WITH THE CARDS I’M DEALT. I wouldn’t change a thing with regards to the last two years and truly feel that karma is working for me. I’m blessed with my girls, my home, great family and friends and this year I will keep doing what I’ve been doing and simply be the best dad, son and brother I can be. My wish for everyone is to have a wonderful and healthy 2011 after all we aren’t getting younger. Cheers!
