Incredible how January just flew bye! I’m left to wonder if the remainder of the months will be the same. The first semester of school is already complete. Seems as if the school year just started. Before we know it we’ll be back in shorts and I’ll be looking to the sky more this summer than the previous two. Anyhow my shoulder is still quite the mess so headed to the gym for my run as it’s freezing outside. I’ll do abs tonight at home, no point in wasting my time at the gym on that when I can do it later. Run today was 7.5 miles in 1 hour for an average pace of 8 minute miles and my legs feel great! This was a great running month, better than I expected. I did 82 miles (131km).

Running Log :: 15 minutes
Took the girls to Vicky’s house today to play and we had planned to go to gym for a run as she got a student from her school to watch the kids. We had planned to be there from 6:30 to 8 and upon arriving they advised us they close at 7pm. Time to change and run for 15 minutes and I wasn’t going to waste it. Got on the treadmill, did a 2 minute warm up and cranked it to 7:10 minute miles for a 2 mile run. Did my two miles in 15:50 (taking into account the slow first two minutes). Was great, got a sweat on and was done.
Running Log :: Inside
Today was a run inside day as I left my clothes in the trunk wet and it’s cold out there. Hit the treadmill, started slow and picked it up to a 7:13 pace and it felt good to let go. Going to try and build some mileage next Monday as I’m taking Sat and Sun off. Have the girls this weekend. Anyhow did 5 miles in 31:40 for an average pace of 7:55 min miles.
Running Log :: Tired
Well it’s been a very busy last week and a half. Visiting family in MontrĂ©al, lots of eating, drinking, making beer and work has been absolutly crazy. No rest for the wicked. This weekend have the girls so will do lots with them, wear them out and get some sleep when they go down for the night. My run was good but I really need to get back up to mr consistent 4X week to get the training going for Around the Bay. Was a good run and a nice hill climb. Weather was good also only requiring a two long sleeve technical shirts and one T-shirt. WOOHOO.
Beer :: AT HOME
This was my first attempt to do my home brew at home. I usually go to a Ubrew type store but have wanted to make it at home for some time and with the gas stove in the basement figured it would be perfect time. Anyhow other than adding the Aroma Hops a bit early I would say it all went as planned. Having to make a few trips to hardware store for parts though was also a bit frustrating but in the end I made a wort chiler and mash tun without incident or injurt.
Tennis :: No time
Haven’t had the time to watch tennis the way I had hoped to this year. I’ve caught some good matches and missed some even better ones. I really wish I was there to watch it. I was fortunate in 1994 to watch the open and will someday return. Anyhow here is the ticker which I found on the Open site.
Running Log :: Brrrrr
Far to cold to run outside today even though it is currently only -18 with the windchill compared to the -22 this morning without the windchill. I decided to grab my gear and head to the warm confines of the gym and the treamill. It isn’t so bad for the short runs but dispise it for the long runs. Today’s run was a 5 mile run just to warm the legs back up after a short recovery break. Did the 5 miles in 41:15 for a conservative 8:15 minute mile. Feel great and will head back tomorrow and try and get a nice 7-8 mile run in. My quads are still a bit tight from hockey this weekend.
Birthday — bit late
Well I’m a bit late updating my birthday info. I turned 40 recently but was so busy and finished the day off with a car accident. Someone thought it would be a good idea to turn left from the right lane beside me. Smart person turned right into my car as I was proceeding as same direction as him in the left lane beside him. TOOL! Anyhow car is in the garage. It was a good birthday none the less. Need some serious rest though.
Running Log :: sore ankle
Well the ankle is still very tight so I’m thinking it’s the weather, oh and age! Was a good run anyhow as I did 6 miles. I would like to have done more but decided to not push it. I need to get into shape for the Around the Bay race. I really need to get my eating and beer consumption in check as they are what I think is trully holding me back.
Running Log :: Not great
My run today was 100% crap. Nothing loosened up, left ankle was sore from the onset. I haven’t done much running on the treadmill this past year and I don’t think my legs like the feeling of it. Anyhow I also tried to do a little workout and managed to get triceps workout in, very very light biceps and some abs. All in all it was what it was, my last workout in my 30′s…
Run was 3 miles in 26:52 for an average pace of 8:57 minute miles. Was wise to not push it and injure myself.
