So not in the mood to workout today. Feeling frustrated with the inability to run. Today I was even worried to use the elliptical uh!!! I was going to go out and grab a bite to eat and do groceries during my lunch instead but on the way I kicked myself in the butt and made my way to the gym. I had a heavy lifting day making up for my lack of cardio. Did shoulders (overhead barbell presses — core also, seated shoulder presses, bent over lateral raises) and abs (toe catches, decline weighted crunches, hanging leg raises) using supersets. Also did superset of arms doing dips and dumbell curls. Kept the weight heavy for entire workout.

Bulldogs :: isn’t the Jr B’s
As a kid my uncle often took me to Welland Jr. B games and I loved going. We were living just down the street from the arena and it was great fun. Greates memory is definitely the popcorn. Now adays I have popcorn at arena’s or movies and my stomach gets really upset with me. Well this was a great game, NHL quality at half the price. I wanted to see the Marlies play so picked up a pair of tickets and was a great game wtih Bulldogs winning in OT shootout. Only problem is the lack of attendance. The difference in the quality of the atmosphere between NHL and AHL is obvious. One the scoreboard, replace it! Nothing worse than pixels when technology is clearly at PLASMA and LCD. More replays! So many things. Anyhow was a great game.
Nowhere
Nowhere
Deliverance, the breaking from here and now
white is the color of this freedom
having been there if for a moment
there is one question, how
What carried me to that depth
there was no up nor down
no spectrum nor rainbows
no sound, man without breath
no clocks, time, day or night
consciousness is a myth here
to realize that this place
this place as big as it is bright
the greatness of it all
comes from realizing I was nowhere
starving for a breath
and back to my new reality I fall
Weekend Update :: He eats meat!
Well like the SNL skits it’s time for your weekend update. I had a great weekend making new friends and spending time with old ones. The weekend starte with the making of a new friend and the awakening of a spirit. That blended into the what became Saturday and time with family. Saturday evening was spend with my brother in law and a Buffalo Sabers game. We started in the Harbor Club for supper and the vegetarian life had come to a halt on my outing on Friday night with some nice coconut curry chicken, but that would pale in comparison to the plate at the Harbor Club (photos included). The beer consumption there proved costly and then we headed into the game for more beer and awesome hockey with Buffalo winning in overtime. After the game there was some hottubbin (spelling?) and then bed, late again! Being woken up to someone standing over you making some odd noise is one way to go about it. Waking the fog of sport, alcohol and the confusion still looming over my Friday was the plan de jour Sunday. Gathering friends and aquaintances together for another trip across the boarder for the Bills game, beer and BBQ. Again opting for the proteins of meat having chicken wings and saussage and uhhhh hot dogs. The Bill game was great, another winning moment with their first win of the season. I had a great weekend all around, no regrets and many great lessons.
Lost
Have you ever been so lost in a moment that you find it difficult to navigate your way back? Something inside you fires off and lets you know that this is “different”. This different can be good or bad but in either situation you are lost or reeling trying to figure out what just happened. I had such a moment but once in my life and now the deja-vu. Thrown back almost 20 years! This confusion is stemming from the lack of understanding as to where it came from or what caused it. How did I manage to get so lost in the moment that nothing around me existed! I felt like I was in a dream the entire time and couldn’t figure out how to wake up! I didn’t really want to wake up. I was certain 20 years ago of what I I felt, but couldn’t get there again. I didn’t understand where that there was. Well it has been validated. I’m good this time around with the fact that it’s not the right time or place, person, however you wish to look at it but the feeling can’t be dismissed. That place I ended up indeed exists. I’ve thought all these years maybe I was wrong about what I felt that night some 20 odd years ago maybe it’s a myth. These past few years even mistaking a spark, a look a sensation for “that”! Wanting it so bad, trying to convince myself that I was finding it when I knew I wasn’t.
As time passes you start to forget what that place looked like. You can’t see it within you when you close your eyes. You question whether it was even real or make believe. What am I left with now? Certainty! Circumstances get in the way of that, life gets in the way but that euphoric lost feeling exists, that place is there and I’m more convinced of it today than I have ever been. It is possible to go to a different place where life can’t touch you. It’s worth spending forever in search of it. Knowing is enough, having had a glimpse even if for an instant that “it’s there”! Through it I stand smiling accepting the fact that if for an instant I was there again! I can’t go back to it, letting life back in closes the door, destroys its magic! But it’s there!
Workout :: NO Cardio
Still can’t do cardio. My run last week just pushed the hamstring tendon on the left side to far. Now I’m sidelined. Have to at least get my workouts in. Today was arms, back, chest and abs. Spent a bit of extra time here today. Exercises consisted of wide grip chins, dumbell bench press, cross cables, curls, dips, overhead cable, toe catches, decline crunches, hanging leg raises and cable curls. Was a great workout. Very winded at the end.
Running Log :: Up da hill, down da hill~
Oh finaly some mileage! I haven’t been getting the mileage in since the marathon and it has really been getting to me. Today I was determined to try and run for an hour. I ended up getting a nice 8 mile run in up the Chedoke Trail. The autumn leaves were under foot, the waterfalls flowing and the hikers bundled up. I love running this time of year!
Workout :: Awesome
Had an awesome workout today, could barely breathe after it was full of supersets again. Todays workout was targetted at the shoulders but also did back, arms and abs. Started with overhead barbell presses with superset of toe catches. My abs were still on fire from yesterdays workout. Next were shoulder presses with superset of bent over lateral raises. Followed this up with wide grip chins and cable curls. Last group of exercises were hanging leg raises with superset of dips. I was 100% spent at the end of this workout.
Santa Race
This was a great race last year. The atmosphere with all these people running dressed as Santa Claus and the kids either on the sidelines watching or some of the running it is just great. I am very excited to be registered in this race again this year as is my buddy Paul Preston . I’m just trying to decide if this is enough time to train my one daughter to walk run the race. We’ll just have to see this week what she thinks of the idea…
Running Log :: Recovering
Well my last marathon really tooks it’s toll. I really love recovering and feeling my body coming back. I went out for a run and was really in the right frame of mind, one of recovering. I had a great workout in the morning which also helps heaps. So headed out for my Yonge Street run which is always fun as I do the urban assult through Mel Lastman Square dodging people really testing the IT Band syndrome. As you know the swelling of the IT band makes downhill and side to side extremely painful. This time, feeling good… The little nag behind the left knee (attaching to the calf) is still tender. Just keep my pace down for now. Great run, very pleased!
