Workout :: high school

Well again today Dave got his ass into the gym for his second day of cardio. Says his thighs are sore today, NO PAIN NO GAIN… Today I tried doing my dips with a weight belt to load up some weight. I was able to load up with 25lbs plate and do 10 dips. I’ll have to try the 35lbs next time. I also added weight to my haning leg raises and decline crunches. So today I did arms (dumbell curls, close grip barbell bench, revers pressdown, preacher curls and weighted dips), abs (toe catches, decline crunch, hanging leg raises). Was a great workout. Love getting it out of the way during the day.

Running Log :: Fast!

Very fast 3 mile run. I did a warmup 400 meters which I didn’t time and then I started the run. I was determined to see what kind of speed I can pull off. I know I could have gone a bit faster but the shins were sore today. I am totally amazed at the speed I ran. I was somewhat winded after the first mile which was in 6:30 and ran a recovery mile in 7 minutes which was even more encouraging. The last lap I also ran in 7 minutes and it was also a relaxed mile. I am very encouraged with those times, watch out Boston — I’m coming for you…

Workout :: Shoulders

Well working in Toronto again this morning and got David to come in early and do an elliptical session while I worked out. Was a bit late as it took me a bit longer to get ready than normal, thanks for the distraction! Anyhow having already done my cardio session it was time for a workout. Did shoulders (dumbell shoulder press, bent over lateral raises), arms (dips, cable curls), abs (trunk twists, toe catches) and back (wide grip chins). All of this was with heavy loading so it feels great. Have to get a 3 mile run in at some point today. I’ll probably have to do it at the AAA park as the girls will be with me tonight and the twins overnight.

Running Log :: Painful 5 miles

Well todays run was HELL! I mean I wasn’t comfortable at all. I got through it but it wasn’t fun. And the wind, could there have been more wind (55km/h gusts). I really wasn’t in the mood today but you have to do what you have to do. I need to be ready to meet week one of training with little difficulty by the long weekend in May. I should be just fine if I get through this week.

Workout :: afternoon off

Well I had a half day off in my bank of holidays so figured I’d take it today and get my run and workout in and then hit brewtime to make a two batches of beer (Tankhouse and Smithwicks) which will be ready in 3 weeks. I was trying to decide where to go for my workout and decided on York Street. There were a few guys in there but not to busy as it was 1pm. Had a great workout doing back, arms, shoulders (overhead barbell press) and abs. Great workout and glad I got one in. Not sure I’ll have time tomorrow.

Running Log :: tired

Wow my legs were tired today from my run on Sunday. I decided to get my 3 mile in really relaxed doing an easy out and back. It’s difficult to stay focused on the task at hand and not speed up when the legs start to loosen up. Anyhow I was sure to not push it to hard. Had a great run. A bit chilly but logged my miles and went and hit the gym after. Average pace was 7:56 minute miles which was a bit faster than I wanted but stll slow enough to recover (I hope).

Workout :: No kids?

As many of you already know I hate commuting to Toronto. I go there one to two days a week for work but it is my least favorite thing in the world. Anyhow I’ve recently started going in extra early to get my workout in the revamped workout room at the adjoining high school. This has worked out very well for me. Today I realized there were no kids and came to realize it was a PE day. I even got to crash a free staff BBQ for the teachers (thanks Hader). Anyhow after last nights run I was quite bagged for my workout. I had trouble doing the supersets I am accustomed to and it took everything to just get a “good” workout in. I did shoulders, chest and light arms today. Glad I did it but boy do I need a nap.

Running Log :: 10 miler some weather

Well it started out wet and stayed wet… There was a good wind and it seemed to always be in my face no matter what direction I was running in. Anyhow I said I would do between 7 and 10 miles and well I did 10 miles. I’m very pleased with the results. Watch out Boston here I come…

Great Day :: Relax

Mill_street_breweryWell today could have gone eather way. Girls woke up early this morning (7am) and really wasn’t sure what I was in for. There were swimming lessons later in the day so figured we’d get breakfast out of the way and decide from there. We got to the rec centre 30 min early so they could play in the park. After rec centre to Anne’s for some lunch and so the kids can all play together. I got to play some hockey with Anne and the kids. What an absolute blast! After Anne’s home to make supper and read a bit while the girls draw with chalk.  Again the girls were spent falling asleep while I made supper! Tubbed and in bed just after 7pm. Now the game (Sens vs. Penguins) and some Tankhouse.
