Well headed out for my mid week 6 miler and decided on Chedoke again today as it was such a wonderful run today. Pretty soon into my run I notice a police bulletproof vest on a under cover officer and he ‘s looking up the escaprment and then two more one with a dog. For once I’m running, there are police and I’m not being chased BOOYA!!!! Anyhow later into my run I ran into my old neighbor on the trail and he asked “how’s it going”, my reply “ok still running”. Then he says “haven’t seen you around, guess you don’t want to talk about it?”. Said “all good, we are split up, I’m ok gotta run”. Well run was great, pace was a bit faster than I had planned but find it really hard to run 8:30 minute miles. Will try tomorrow. Did my 6 miles in 47:22 for average pace of 7:54 minute miles.

Workout :: Sunrise
Well my daughter stayed with me last night and I wanted to hit the gym so told her if she wanted to stay over she’s going to have to get up early so I can bring her home to get ready. She said oh yeah no problem! Well to my surprise whe was pretty easy to wake up. We get in the car and the sun is just starting to rise. Syd says “Why is it so dark out, what time is it?” Oh the size of her eyes when she saw the clock in the car turn bright with the turn of the ignition. “What not even seven o’clock?” It was 6:50am when we were in the car. I said look people are up and isn’t that an amzing sunrise, ever seen one of those. A quick reply “NO!” hahahaha Last night was fun we watched Beverly Hills Cop. It’s great to rewatch these old movies with her, she laughed. Of course there was Serge.
Well did make it to the gym and got a good morning workout in and then got to work with the greatest voice mail waiting for me. Oh how that sets the tone of the day. Anyhow the gym was as follows, back (wide grip chins, bent over dumbbell rows), shoulders (shoulder press, lateral raises). Then chest and superset abs (dumbell bench and toe catches, cross cable and elbow to knee) and then finish abs and back (hanging leg raises, dips and back extensions). Great workout and great way to start the day and I have a 6 mile run at lunch to do.
Bon Dad :: Bad Dad
Well tired of the girls eating a heap of pizza, asking for treat, wanting POP and everything else under the sun and then doing nothing. I try and explain that you can’t eat just junk all the time and do nothing and expect to be healthy and great in sports. My oldest is playing sports less and less and eating more and more junk. She’s older and thinks that means that now I can have pop with my meals, now I can leave the fruit at home and pack my lunch with Halloween treats. Well I for one am tired of watching it. I start with good intentions but eventually let her win and not do anything. Well tonight I took the girls to the Dundurn stairs after the Pizza and told them they need to do the set two times and they did. Dying, huffing puffing and complaing the entire time but c’est la vie. My oldest will not do some form of exercise with me 3X a week for 20+ minutes starting this week and she doesn’t have a choice. Look out people, lean mean Bon Dad, Bad Dad on the prowel… She want’s to play basketball in High School, well I’m going to make sure she lives out her goal!
Running Log :: Chedoke
Hamilton used to have a ski area at the Chedoke Golf and Country club. I believe there was a chair lift and t-bars. That has long since been shutdown because of money and city funding etc. Anyhow I decided to take my camera today and noticed construction equipment along the trail at the golf club. Seems they were taking down the old ski objects, t-bar and chair lift equipment as well as the cabins used by the employees. I manged to get some nice pics of it as well as other area of the trail (Chedoke Rail Trail / Bruce Trail).
My run was a 3 mile run but did it very slowly in my new shoes to give my legs a break and also to get some of these pictures. The run was completed in 34:02, great fun.
New Shoes ::
Well new shoes, WOOHOO!!! I’ve run in Triumph before and love them. They were on sale which is a great thing. These are cushioning shoes which is the type I always wear. I probably should have gotten them a few weeks back but now I’m glad I didn’t and saved some cash! Picked them up at the Running Room and here is the description.
Running Log :: Park
Well took the girls down to Hamilton AAA park (Ryerson) for my run. I was sore from the first step, I think I require new shoes and after my run my left leg was in excrutiating pain. Hopefully this will feel better over the next day or two and allow me to push through it. I really have to go get a new pair if I’m going to succeed. Anyhow did a 6 mile run in 48 minutes for an average pace of 8 minute miles. I really hope I can continue training, and get past this.
Running Log :: Sore legs
First few steps into my run and I have to admit I wanted to just lay up. My legs (shins) were killing me.. I did warm up slowly and managed to get through my 5k run and did it in descent time, 22:52 with a best lap (400 meters) of 1:36. Anyhow did my run in shorts and a T-shirt and have to admit, BRR COLD!!!
Workout :: I need to pee
Day started out great going up to the house to Celebrate Airlie’s Birthday. 7 years old, wow how time just flies by. Well now that it’s all over and it’s nothing serious I can say my prostate is pretty much a OK! Since spring I’ve been having wierd issues. Test after test and and nothing. Today was final test (cystoscopy) which isn’t the most comfortable procedure on earth but all clear. Guess like my alopeica stress related. I think my vasectomy as less evasive hahaha. Anyhow after this procedure I wasn’t overly comfortable so figured I would try a workout and see how I felt. I got a descent workout in but managed to get through it before having to go Pee because I wanted to do that at home as it’s not overly comfortable at the moment. I did chest (dumbell press and cross cable), abs (toe catches, hanging leg raises, elbow to knee), arms (barbell curl, cable curl, pressdown, machine pressdown).
Running Log :: RUN FOREST RUN!
Well that was an easy run around the track. Went for an 8km run and it was great. This track that I run around is next to a school ground and with the new ministry rules kids require so much exercise a day. So there is often a class outside while I’m doing my run and today was no different. The kids are playing football etc. and today there is one kid standing there by himself, no friends in a t-shirt (it’s freezing today) doing NOTHING. After a couple laps and watching him doing nothing but holding the light pole upright I dicided to say something “Hey kid instead of standing there why don’t you run”. “OK!” he replies!. So here I am running with a grade 7 or 8 kid in toe. Could kids today possibly be more out of shape? I slowed my pace dramaticaly for the 400 meter lap and he was just sucking wind and after about 200 meters falling further and further behind. Congrats to the kid, he did do the 400 meters and I advised him he might want to walk a lap. He did that and decided he’d had enough, and beside the light pole might fall over so time to get back and hold the sucker up.
I finished my 8 km run in 36:28 for an average pace of 7:20 minute miles, good enough for Boston that pace …
Running Log :: EAT THIS!
Well I managed to race home to change for my run and have some left over Meatloaf (TURKEY) only use Turkey though not half and half like recipie calls for. This is great with some rice and easy on the stomach so if you have to eat and run, this is the meal. Anyhow headed to the track at Locke Street and planned on 13 laps for 5.2km. Did the run in 24:52 for an average pace of 7:42 minute miles. Was great run and feeling really good, legs feel awesome.
