Running Log :: F’in GPS

Well went for an out and back run in Fort Erie and this time a beautiful woman decided to join me on a bicycle to follow me and actually help push me a bit, extra motivation! I was out for a 12 mile run and my stupid GPS died on the way out but I got it going again looing about 30 seconds to get it going again and about a quarter mile. Same on the way back but a bit longer. I laid up about 3 minutes early because I had easily done 12 miles, actually a bit more and the time was about 1:27 something, for sure not 1:28. Was great, my average pace was around 7:17. Great run. Boston here I come…

Niagara Falls n more

Well was on my way to Dodie’s with the girls but headed out way to early so on the way had made a comment about Niagara Falls and the girls (my three youngest) made a comment that they have never seen the Falls. I never really put much thought into it but it’s true the have never actually seen the falls themselves. They’ve been to the indoor water park but never to the falls and Cliffton Hill. So Voilà, off the falls we go. After a great morning and lunch at Boston Pizza in the Falls we headed to Dodie’s for the afternoon so all the kids could play together. I can’t believe how easy it all is, life is just great…

Soup :: Pho and Chopsticks

Well a night with Syd and I and we decided to have some soup before our movie(s). Headed to Pho Dau Bo in Hamilton on Cannon St. which is my favourite soup. I was introduced to this place years ago by my friend Eric and have been crazy about it since. Anyhow this was Syd’s first time with chopsticks and she was ready to quit right away. I asked for a fork for her but she kept working at it and was very good in the end. She even ate vegetables and tried the bok choy. A real try, not that kid nibble “yuk” kind of try either. So we had the soup and after headed to the apartment to watch movies. Ok Angels and Deamons she didn’t like within first 2 minutes, then off to Funny People which was not child friendly at all… Ended up watching Sixth Sence again but first for her. She did very well with the film and I was pretty tired so she finished it alone while I went to sleep… I’m so proud!!!

Book :: The Lovely Bones

lovely_bonesI loved this book. I’m trying to think about what to write and someone asked me “did you love it?” Yes I loved it. This book moved me, this book touched every part of me. Touched my father part, my childhood part, the love, the passion the wanton desires of growing up and then having it all ripped away.
The concept of looking down watching the aftermath of your demise. You are taken away, your family is left to cope if that is what you want to call it and you can do nothing but observe. I read the book and I learn about loss and there were passages and pages that really dragged me into the loss. Feeling for the family! Could it be rendered worse by not finding the body but parts? Watching life move on and the realization that you can’t guide it. That it will do what it will do, that people will move forward and you will never truly be forgotten. I loved this book and am looking forward to the movie. Some reviews of the film!

Running Log :: the bunny hill

Well as I wrote the last time I ran the Chedoke trail and documented with photos, they are removing the ski equipment from the Chedoke Trail. They were still working away and the green chair lift section was down today. It changed the landscape dramaticaly, I miss it. I had a great day with my girls in the summer at that very spot and there are pics if you snoop around my blog of that day. Anyhow it was drizzling out today and made for a very comfortable run up the trail. I did a 3 miler (out and back) along the trail in 24:50 for an average pace of 8:17 minute miles. The legs were a bit tired frmo the weekend but loosened up nicely.  Gave them a good icinig after and all is good. Tomorrow is a 6 mile run and going to check out what might be my future home…

My Weekend :: Beer n Pie

newsamglass2007There was so much more to my weekend asside from Beer and Pie but it seemed a fitting caption. I do like to critique my drinks and well I must start with the Boston Lager. What a great beer, I’m going to have to get the glass seen in the photo though because it does make it look so much better hahaha. Anyhow I had this beer I believe in Florida after Marathon while I was laid up in the Motel injured waiting to get back to Canada and I loved it. Someone very special went and  procured me some of the flavourful delight without me even asking which makes it even more special and I’m sure taste even better.  This is a flavourful lager that reminds me a bit of Sleemans Dark (Sleemans Rousse in Quebec). It is full tasting, light for a darker beer and has a great aroma.
As for the pie, Sheppard’s Pie. Oh how I love Sheppard’s Pie and I was treated to a great Sheppard’s Pie which was magnificent after an 11 mile run. Thanks beer and Pie Lady.

Running Log :: Fort Erie

Well went for a run in Fort Erie today with my Brother in Law and niece (they were on bikes). Today was supposed to be an 11 miler so started along the lake at the foot of Emerick Avenue heading towards Waverly Beach and the Friendship Trail. Had a great run and it was nice having people with me. I ran at a great pace for  a training run, 7:38 minute miles. My best pace was mile 9 which I did in 7 minutes. Anyhow legs feel great after and endurance wasn’t a problem. Looking forward to next weeks mileage.

Workout :: n a treadmill

Well headed down to the gym after my super long day. Let me see, woke up first time around 2am having a serious dream. I tell you something has really changed in my life, for years I did not dream and the last month I’m dreaming almost every night and remembering many of them. Last night I was having a finger cut off with a cigar cutter. I’m thinking it was because of Beverly Hills Cop and the mob guy in there. Anyhow first time awake around 2am. Then again around 3-4 ish but not for long. Then up for the day at 5am. From there made my way to Toronto today for work, then home. Once home practicing finger picking the Pearl Jam song “Just Breathe” and it’s coming along. Decided to head over to gym, did a great workout — short but effective. Did standing barbell press, some hanging leg raises, cable curls, cable pressdown (triceps), hanging tic toc’s and then headed over to the treadmill. Did my 3 mile run in 26:10 for a nice easy pace as my left leg is killing me. After that headed to work which is where I’m writing this from because I ran out of ice cups at home to ice my leg. Ice’d it, writing this and then will maybe go to Starbucks to try and finish my book.

Why Serge?

One might ask themselves “why Serge?”. Someone asked someone why Serge and the answer was a resounding why not! Well I felt honored… I got the coles notes version but asked for the essay… Regardless I have a huge smile and with that, through the rain I can see the sun shining.
