Could it possibly be hotter out. I decided to try and do my run at lunch so that I can go workout tonight. It is so hot, feels like 33 C (93F). I ran the Chedoke trail and tried to stay in the shade but man that was just crazy. I did the 6 miles and my legs were killing me, I was hot the whole thing was insane. I had to get some Analgesic Cream for the leg and some Advil and get this under control before it gets to much to get through my runs. I have 3 miles tomorrow which I will take easy and then a rest day before the 6 miles Saturday and long run (12 miles) Sunday. So the stats for the run, 6 miles in 44:11 for an average pace of 7:21 minute miles. I’m really not sure about that time though because the GPS had my first mile really fast and it didn’t feel like I was doing that and I also lost signal in there for a minute so I think it’s a messed reading.

Running Log :: pain and heat
Running Log :: Tempo Run
Well went and did a 3 mile tempo run and this is actually the first time I do a real tempo run. I did the first mile in an easy 8:42 min mile pace. The second mile i ran in 6:43 minutes and the last mile in 8:23. This was the perfect day to do a temp run as I was just so tight. I have not felt my legs this tight and in this much pain in quite some time. I was fortunate that Sarah was able to get me in for a massage as I really need to try and work some of these knots and this extreme tightness out. It seems to have worked, I’m sitting here amazed at how much looser my legs feel. So anyhow with that said “Thanks Sarah” and here are the stats, 3 miles in 23:50 for an average pace of 7:56 (if it’s even worth putting average as you can see what my split times were). I think for the rest of the week I’m going to take my speed down and just build up the mileage base and let the legs heal up a bit.
Night with the kids
Well tonight was my night with the kids and Sydney was sick ** sad ** . Took the girls bowling as they had been asking me all week to take them. Guess they were sick of virtual Wii bowling hahahaha. Anyhow took them bowling and Airlie was learning one handed bowling, man she’s getting big. Anyhow we took the one hour price $22 (when did bowling get so expensive). Well we had a blast and after bowling — yes daddy won, we went to Timmies for some Coffee, juice and cookies.
Windows :: I’ve been working forever
Well I’ve been logged into my system for ever. See how long? Based on the number of days I’ve been logged in since 1601! Way to go Microsoft…
Some other important events back when I logged in!
- Olivier van Noort completes his circumnavigation of the world.
- The Crucifixion of Saint Peter (Italian: Crocifissione di san Pietro; 1600) is a work by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, painted for the Cerasi Chapel of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome.
- William Shakespeare, The Phoenix
Workout :: Didn’t want to go

Well I was home and had made supper, eaten was sitting in a chair and having that internal war! You know the war, oh just relax tonight, recovery day, just don’t worry about it you can workout out tomorrow! Well if I don’t want to go to Boston I could have stayed home. But Boston here I come, gym here I come. Went to the gym and ended up having an awesome workout. Full on hard core! Ended up doing chest (incline and decline dumbbell press X 8 sets), shoulders (shoulder press), arms (tricept machine, dumbell curls) and abs (hanging leg raises, lower ab crunch with 10lb weight and back extensions). This was an awesome workout! Glad I went!
Running Log :: long run uphill?
![]()

Man had I known the trail I was going to take was a steady uphill I would have possibly thought twice. I was just so sore from yesterdays workout (the lunges). Anyhow I set off and the entire run was excrutiating. I missed the girls so much and really needed to clear my head. I wanted to quit at mile 2. Pushed on and pushed and thought about Boston Marathon and Qualifying and that it’s not going to be easy and that I have to push. I have to just look past the pain and learn to love it, learn that it isn’t real, that it’s all in my head. So anyhow I did my 11 miles today in 1:25:34 for a pace of 7:46 minute miles which is better than I thought I would be able to do with the sore quads. Well I’m done and just had a nice breakfast and now coffee! There are some great sites on this trail including a replica train station. There are also lots of parks for the kiddies.
Workout :: Hard core
Well it’s been quite some time since I’ve put that kind of effort into a workout. It’s not for a lack of interest but I just don’t go to the gym on Upper Wentworth enough. I’ll have to start going back to that one because I just feel more comfortable there. Anyhow I did back (wide grip chins, seated rows), shoulders (shoulder press, lateral raises and bent over lateral raises), arms (dumbell curl, dips and tricept machine), abs (toe catches, plank, leg raises). I also did lunges during the ab cardio workout and lots of skipping. I feel great now. Time to get back to the DZ, get some jumping in and also a long run tomorrow (11 miles)
Running Log :: Rain and mud
Well it’s been quite some time since I’ve run in the rain and running a trail in the rain just screams fun. It was an absolute blast having the mud splach up the calves feeling yourelf really get into the run. I ran from Victoria Park to the top of the Chedoke Train in Ancaster and back and not a bad time at all. I ran 6 miles in 44:23 for an average pace of 7:23 minute miles. This is really starting to look like my year for Boston. Tomorrow is my 11 mile run and I’m actually looking forward to it.
Workout :: Hard one
Well after yesterdays workout at home which wasn’t much more than some abs, pushups, and dips I went to the gym tonight. I had a great workout! I worked on chest (incline and flat dumbell bench — 8 sets each), abs (hang leg raises with 10lbs, crunches, back extensions), arms (dumbell curls, tricep machine), shoulders (ISO machine press). Felt awesome. There is lots of running to get through this weekend and I’m ready for it. Tomorrow hit the gym after my workout and then the DZ.
Running Log ::wow pace is getting easy
Well I have to admit these easy pace runs are getting awesome. This time last year I was happy to run a 7:33 minute mile pace. I just went for an easy 3 mile maintenance run so that I didn’t kill myself before my weekend long run. Anyhow I did 3 miles in 22:40 for an average pace of 7:33 minute miles and it was absolutly no work what so ever cardio wise. Considering I need to run 7:26 minute miles during the Toronto I’m very encouraged. See how my long run goes on the weekend and what kind of pace I get for that and that will be huge deciding factor. I might see what the weather is like and drive up to Fergus or maybe take the Brantford Trail. We’ll have to wait and see!
