WHAT A DAY :: RUN, PORCHE, SKYDIVE

Well what can I say. Went for the solo jump today and it was raining slightly with severe overcast so I decided to go for my run. Did a little over 4 miles outside, down Burnaby Road to Morgans Point, all the way down to the point and back. Was a great run, good weather for a run and the legs felt good. The left leg is a little tender but it’s coming along. Was averaging about 8:45 minute miles. After that David gave the the keys to his Porche Boxter and let me take her for a spin. What a day. Then to top it off the sky cleared and I successfully (as I’m wring I survived) did my first solo freefall. I’ll post a video shortly and the photos as soon as I get them. Have to say have a great wife, I was away all day and she still loves me.

Running Log :: 45 min, Oh yeah!

Well what an awesome day. I’m at 45 minutes.. We’ll keep the runs between 40 and 45 minutes for the following week. I’ll try an outside run at the skydive club on the weekend if I’m waiting for weather to clear. I’m a bit tender but no serious pain. This is a big step. The legs felt great in the run to about 35 min, then started to tire below the knee but I didn’t push it. That could also be from the little bit of hill I used during yesterdays run. Anyhow the run was 4.5 miles in 45 minutes at pace of about 9:40min mile and the calories were over 700.
Well if I can keep this I’ll be good the the Peach Bud 10k.

RACES :: THINK THIS WILL BE FIRST

Well I think I’ve picked my first race back to recovery. Notice I decided to run on a Tuesday, could skydiving on the weekends have prompted that LOL. Anyhow I’m at 40 min for running now and my leg feels pretty good the next day so I think it’s time to try my luck at running with other people and outside. I’m going to register for the Tim Hortons Peach Bud 10K in Grimsby Ontario. It’s on June 24th and I should be more than ready by then. I’m going to try and get a 45 min run in today at lunch. We’ll see how that goes and go from there.

Running Log :: 40 min EASY

Running ShoeWell just did  a 40 min run at the gym and it was pretty effortless. Body felt good, breathing good and legs good. What else could one ask for? I’m so psyched, the road to recovery actually has a light at the end of the tunnel. No idea how far the light is but it’s there. Anyhow will try and do double days pretty soon, short runs outside in the evening just to feel the feet hit the cement but keep the real running to the machines till this is further along. The total run was a little over 4 miles. I had hills at .5 degrees for about 5 minutes. Was maintaining a pace of between 9:40 and 9:49 minutes miles. Calories were somewhere above 600.

skydiving :: last tandem (jump 3)

Well today was my third tandem jump and it was awesome. The day started out pretty bleak. The overcast was endless and thundershowers looked inevitable but wouldn’t you believe it, the sky cleared and made for an amazing day. The winds were quite strong so there was to be no first solo but that was probably best, you don’t realize how much you have to take in from your jumps. Lots to absorb. All was great, good exit, arch, tracking, 360 right, 360 left, watch altimeter and 6000 lock on, 5500 wave off, arch, reach, pull arch.

Good landing under the piloting of my tandem coach Scott. Beautiful landing in the wind. As he so eloquently puts it, the wind sock has a hardon, someone is going to get F%$^#E…

Running Log :: back to gym

Well back to running today after missing yesterday due to Skydive Ground Training (Oh yeah!!).  Anyhow I ran for 35 minutes today (yes you noticed right, 5 minutes more) at the 9:47 minute pace. The foot started to hurt around the 30 min mark this time so it’s getting much better. Just have to keep it slow. Anyhow did 35 min for 3.5 miles and approx 550 calories.
I’m back at work (did the workout on my lunch) and always fell 10 times better after a good run. I just can’t wait till they are 1+ hrs. It all takes time, I know and worst thing to do is rush it.

Running Log :: 30 min today

Well did a 30 min run and put the hill up to .5 a few times. The run was good but I can tell that I will hurt after. I was going to do elliptical after but figured I had better not push my luck. Rest the leg. Did ab work after and then went home.

A couple fun weekends

I guess I need to start putting more than simply running logs and the odd workout. So here is a typical weekend around the Gingras house with Pascal over for some drinks as well as Paul but didn’t get pic of Paul. Look around the blog and you’ll see Paul also (see Florida pics.)

Skydive :: Overcast Sucks

Well went down to Skydive Burnaby hoping to get another tandem in but the skies never opened up. Hung out for a couple hours with the girls (Sydney and Airlie) but it wouldn’t be. Signed up for the ground training on tuesday evening and planned for jumping next Sunday, no room Saturday. This reminds me of kiteboarding, now I’m hypersensitive to the weather. Always find myself looking up!
