CARDIO 101

week.JPG

Before I get into my blog entry for today, will you look at the weather for the week. Now this is running weather. I will be out for sure three times this week. Keep building up by 10%. We’ll get there!

Well back on the stair machine for some cross training yesterday. Haven’t been on it in a few weeks and it shows. I was just dying. I’ve got to get my weight back down and get in peek shape for this summer. I’ve been procrastinating but not for obvious reasons, lazyness, I’ve been doing so because I was discouraged. Not easy being injured and even more frustrating when the healing process takes this long. Anyhow I will do what I can with the running and not rush it but I am also not going to allow that to continue to be my excuse to eat and drink as I wish. I’m setting out my goals to be accomplished over the next 4, 8 and 12 week marks. My road to recovery. I just hit 200lbs even and goal number one is to be back to 175 in 12 weeks. That is peek running weight for me. That’s only about 8lbs a month, piece of cake! mmmmmm Cake!!! Anyhow you can follow my progress. I’ll also take a few pics now and then some at 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks.

Running Log :: Some progress

Well ran for 27 minutes today. Did 3 mile run, averaging 8.5 min miles for the first two miles. Walked for a few min after the first two miles (at about the 18 min mark) and then finished up running. Did some good stretching afterwards. I can feel it in the arch and the ankle (left side) still. I have referral for ultrasound to see what is going on here but they are booking into August (except for a cancellation in July). I’ll see if I can’t find a place in Toronto that can do this procedure quicker. I just can’t wait that long. I might have to reevaluate my goals for the year though, we’ll just have to play it out.

Running Log :: The Comeback

Well got referal for UltraSound to see what is going on with shin and arch on left leg. I went for a nice walk run for 2 miles. Pace was good, working on soft landings. Ran my usual short route, up upper Wentworth to Rymal, Right on Rymal to the cemetary and back home. Good run.

Running Log :: Ran nice and short again

Well ran again last night and kept it to just over a mile, get my legs back slowly. Got my pace for the mile down to 8.30 minutes and my legs seemed ok after. Did good stretching before and after. I’ve been working on stretching out my shins throughout the day as well. I’m hoping this will be it. I’ve got a Dr. Appt today and try and get Xray  just to see if I did in fact have a stress fracture. I just have to be certain this isn’t going to come back again when I start hitting the 5 and 10 mile marks. That I can successfully increase mileage at 10% without fear of being sidelined yet again.

Running Log :: Well first day back at it

weather.jpgWell first day back at running. I only ran for 10 min. One mile that’s it. Get back into it slowly this week. Going to do everything humanly possible not to get recurrence of my overuse injuries. Took it very easy, ease back into it and did great stretching afterwards. The weather was great for a short run. Could have gotten away with leaving the sweater at home and run in long sleeve technical T but wore the sweater and was somewhat hot. Try and get to the gym tonight after the kids are in bed, well see how I feel then.

Tensor Wrap

tensor.JPGWell I’ve started wrapping my left shin with a tensor wrap. I never even really though about it but it’s working wonders. I noticed that the dull ache would begin to return right away in the morning as I would go up and down the stairs getting ready, as I was driving while shifting gears and while walking around. I figured that I would wrap it with moderate pressure and see if that would help. I’ve noticed that the pressure point just above the ankle seems to have almost completely disapeared. There is still some discomfort in the arch but it’s mild to nonexistand throught different points of the day. That can be equally scary as my shoulder surgury was for a pain that wasn’t “always there” and it ended up being major and requiring two surgeries.
Anyhow I’m hoping that by the beginning of next week the pain is completely gone in the shin and I can start to slowly get back into running.
