Well I think my pain might be Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy. Now the extent of it I won’t know till I get home. Day after tomorrow. I’ve read what I need to do, Ice it every 2 hrs for 15-20 min and stay off it. The swelling is getting worse but I have been on it all day. I’ll keep it elevated and see what happens. One of the causes is overuse and running on slope and turns which this marathon was full of. The Disney Marathon had far to many on and off ramps which are banked and slopped. These were horrible on the feet, also having to run on the uneven grass to avoid the crowds. I’ll keep you all posted and add a few more pictures as it was quite difficult to find information on this as there are very few pictures. I’ll also use the other words (medical lingo… Jargon) for this injury. Good news is that if there isn’t an actual tear it should heal up within 2-4 weeks which is what I was planning to take off anyhow.

Running Pain :: Foot is killing me
Well today we were going to check out different places but my foot is killing me. I have sore quads and calves but nothing like the pain in my feet. I’m sure the pic says it all. I’m not sure what is going on but can’t wait to get home and get it looked at. I can put weight on it but the more I walk the more black and blue it becomes. That picture was taken a few hours ago and it is looking much worse at the moment. I think today’s plan is a movie and sit in a book store. The weather is a bit colder today. It’s cool but there is a wind that is making it feel much cooler. Plus aft
er yesterdays heat and humidity during the run I think anything below 80 feels cold and currently it’s 56F (14C). They are calling for a high of 66(19C), I sure hope so. Anyhow I’ll write more if anything changes today.
Disney Marathon 2008 :: Did it
Well this was by far my most difficult challenge. My legs hurt when I got up from yesterdays half marathon. At mile two I wasn’t sure how this was going to go. My goal turned into finishing the half way point in under two hours. As you can see I did it with only a few seconds to spare. I had extreme foot cramping from miles 15 to about 19 where I had to stop and take my shoe off and remove my insert for the leg discrepency. Well that only make things worse so I had to stop again about 20 min later at one of the nutrition stops to put the insert back in. Well that then caused the hamstrings that hurt at mile two to finaly seize up. That caused a walk an run for a few miles till I could throw myself down a hill and get my legs moving again. The weather was great till about three and a half hours into the race, then the sun was blistering down and the humidity was horrible. I’m glad I completed this and actually beat my time of last year (which wasn’t to hard as I was about 2 min shy of 5 hrs). I’m looking forward to my next marathon at this point. This was a great test of my legs. I haven’t run in a month except for yesterday and today and I didn’t get shin splints, the greatest accomplishment of them all. Check out my Disney photos page for pics from today including my two medals for today, the marathon medal and Goofy’s Challenge medal.
Disney Half Marathon 2008 : PART 1 of Goofy
Well you will all be happy to know that I have finished day one of my two day Goofy challenge. I did the half marathon today with Paul 13.1 miles. I saved lots of energy for tomorrow. Overall the run was fun but they allowed all the walkers in with the runners and this created major chaos. The entire first 8-9 miles were spent trying to get around people that don’t understand that one you need to give way to runners, two you don’t take up the entire path by being six wide and chit chatting about someones outfit or hair. This is not your Sunday walking session at the mall. I understand this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to walk through Disney and get great pictures but wow, how unorganized was this. There were three waves for about 13,000 people and they mixed them up with walkers so no matter what you were stuck. At mile three we were passing people who left 10 min earlier in wave 2. Anyhow enough on that subject, overall the weather was awesome, the crowds even better and the volunteers as usual TOP NOTCH!!! Hats off to the volunteers. IN BOLD THE DISNEY VOLUNTEERS ARE THE GREATEST!!!
For those of you who know me or follow my blog I have not had the opportunity to run since December 7th, 2007. My last run was an 8 mile run and that one sidelined me with a severe shin splint. It didn’t come back today thank goodness and I’m hoping that it doesn’t present itself tomorrow. 63km (39.3 miles) in two days is a great deal of running especially if you haven’t run in over a month. The elliptical and aquarunning kept my cardio at peek performance. I can say that I had no difficulty today with this run.
There are some photos for you to look at if you either click the photos link to the left or if you click the disney photos page at the top. Tomorrow my goal is to pass the half way mark at about 1:50 and the overall goal of between 3:45 and 3:59 hrs. If you are reading this today send me some email encouragement, I could use it! s_gingras@hotmail.com.
Disney Half Marathon
Well today is the first part of my “Goofy’s Challenge 2008″, the half marathon. It’s currently 3:14 am and we’ve been up for a while now. We’re hoping to get there for about 4:30 am. The race will start at 6am and we’re hoping to finish at around the 2hr mark. Don’t want to push myself to hard today. I haven’t run in over a month. My cardio training has been good so there will be no problems there, the only worry is still the left leg. Can’t hurt it today, take it nice and easy to ensure that I’ll be able to run tomorrow. The atmosphere has been great, the expo was packed and will probably be that way again today. Depending on the weather would like to get into Disney’s Magic Kingdom today and check out the rides. It’sin the 60′s at the moment so that will make it easier to get outside and they are calling for high of about 82 again. The only problem is the thunderstorms they are calling for this afternoon. Hate to pay the money to get into the park and you are doomed with T-Storms. Anyhow I’ll write more after the race.
Cocoa Beach :: New Tattoo

Arrived in Florida ::
Well we (Paul and I) are in Florida. Having survived high winds and a power outage at the Buffalo Airport our plane actually took off ontime. We were the lucky ones, many flights before us were delayed by quite some time affecting connecting flights. We took a Delta commuter jet (bombardier — yeah Canadian) to Atlanta for our layover. We had an hour in Atlanta to eat and walk around the airport. Flight to Orlando was easy, only an hour on a larger jet. There are so many people down here that were on the flight that are running either the half, full or Goofy. Tomorrow we’ll be going to get our race kits, and then Cocoa Beach and try and get a short run in. At the moment sitting in our room having some Yellow Tail Cabernet Sovignon.
Elliptical and Pool :: 2 Hours
Well two hour workout tonight. Did one hour workout followed by one hour aquarunning in the pool. The time is a comming. Leaving on Wednesday and I think I’m ready. The half should be piece of cake but the full, well that’s another story, we’ll have to wait and see. I’m more excited about the environment, the expo, the crowds. I’m going to make sure that we get lots of pics during the half marathon run. The forecast has changed and continues to change, we are looking at showers for both Saturday and Sunday (40% and 60% chance respectively).
The AquaJogger is a great workout, and really helps me work on my running style (gait), giving me the opportunity to change body mechanics without having to worry about injuring myself in the process. I will have one or two more entries before I leave as there will be two more light workouts.
No workout today : TAPER
Well I’m going to rest up today, do an hour tomorrow then half hour Mon, Tue and possibley Wed depending on what is available at the hotel in Oscee. This is the last week. One week tomorrow I’ll be running the half and the following day the full. I’m so very excited now. Anyone that knows me well knows this is the highlight to my year, what I look forward to most (next to my christmas party of course).
My leg feels great by the way, no tingle left, no soreness for no good reason throught the day, just a normal leg. I can be quite honest now, that injury had me quite scared. I didn’t think it was going to heal up in time to even begin the run. I’m still not sure how it will hold up but at least I know I can start and for certain survive the half at a descent pace, the full on the other hand! Who knows your guess is as good as mine.
Running Log :: Elliptical TAPER 10 DAYS to DISNEY MARATHON
Well I’m in the home stretch now.. Was tempted to push an hour but it’s taper time and no sence being stupid. The leg is feeling very good. Shin splints seem to finaly have subsided… Can put pressure on the inside of the shin without wincing. All should be good for the run. Did 30 min elliptical today at a fast pace and finished it off Banana Whey Frozen Yogurt proten shake from booster juice mmmmmmmmmm! Can’t get to addicted to those, they might be loaded with protein but also with sugar!!!
