TRAINING :: Still getting ready

OlypticalWell I’ve switched over the Olyptical and the pool to keep getting ready for the Goofy. I did 30 min Olyptical today and 15 min yesterday. It will take till the rest of the week to be up to 1 hour -1 hour 30 min on the Olyptical only because it useds the muscles differently. I’m not worried, this is a repeat of last year. I’m also in the pool. Did 10 min of lengths yesterday. On top of that I’m working out heavier than I normaly do while training for marathon which I also did last year. Tonight I did shoulders and arms and yesterday it was chest and abs.
For the healing process lots of icing, massage and Advils.
I’m so excited about this trip!!! All this training had better pay off, I want to at least be sub 4 hrs at this point. The half marathon will be used to stretch for the full marathon.

INJURED :: IT’S OFFICIAL

Well the running portion of my training is now suspended.. My shin splints are full blown. It’s in my left leg and I just can’t push it any further. Have to do what I did last year again. I will have to do 2 hr sessions of Olyptical followed by some Bike and then running in the pool 4-5X week. None of them are impact and 4 weeks is enough time for the leg to heal up and I’ll be able to run the marathon. It won’t be my best time but my legs will be strong and my cardio will be maintained. I will also throw in some good workout routines. Have to turn this into a positive. My legs will be fresh for the Goofy challenge. Can’t believe this happened two years in a row. At least I understand more what has caused this (my leg discrepencie) and next year I shouldn’t have to worry about this problem any longer.

Running Log :: Exhausted and still sick

Well I went out running and I’m still quite sick. I havn’t been eating nor drinking well which all contributed to my total lack of energy. The temperature was a mile 0C which compated to the weather lately was quite tolerable. I had exhausted legs, sore shins and the heaviest lungs. I couldn’t get a good full breath for the life of me. I did 8 miles, it was supposed to be 9 but I just didn’t want to push my luck. I ran along Rymal to start to Upper Paradise and then to Mohawk. At Mohawk I made my way to Chedoke hospital and ran along Sanitorium road all the way to Monseigneur de Laval. Making my way home after that. Was such a difficult run.
Anyhow for the stats, 8 miles in 1:10:10 for an average pace of 8:46. I was averaging 8:30′s till the last two miles where I just fell apart. My weight has dropped quite a bit, I’m down to 179lbs at the moment.
Tomorrows run should be easier and each one after that easier following this grulling cold.

Running Log :: Sick and it’s freezing

Well I have the worst cold, in my throat, sinus’ and lungs. This is the worst. I had to come home at lunch and sleep as I was just to sick and winded. I did go out for my 5 mile run but it has taken every ounce of energy out of me. The temperature was a wonderful -11C and that doesn’t take into account the windchill. It’s supposed to warm up for my longrun on Sunday. I had better feel a bit better for my long run on Sunday. I bonked today after 4 miles but pulled off mile number five as well.
I did the 5.15 miles in 45:05 for a running pace of 8:45 min miles. I don’t think that is bad at all for how I felt. All I want to do now is some light stretching and go to bed.

WOW MOOBS

jn11-072.jpg

Well here is what a person looks like before they start running and getting in shape. This is a pic of me 10 years ago. I wouldn’t normally embarrass myself but it’s to show the before and after. I got into running a few years ago to shed some weight for kite boarding. The kite boarding didn’t last long but the running took over and I’ve been doing it ever since. It has helped me get in shape, stay that way and also relax. I find that after runs I feel so much more at peace.

CrossTrain and workout day :: Pool Closed — PREMIER FITNESS SUCKS

Well this is the second day in a row that the pool is closed (could be more but I’ve gone the last two). This gym that I switched to sucks. Almost none of the dumbells have the weight identified, for the machines the ropes (for tricep pressdown) are missing (all but one freighed one). Pins for many of the machines are missing. Tonight after the weather we’ve had think they plowed or put ice down so you don’t break your neck in the parking lot NOPE!!! What a hole. Think after the holidays I’m going back to old gym.
Anyhow did workout, arms, abs, chest and 15 min bike.

Running Log :: Had to run indoors (15 miles)

Shin SplintWell had to run on the treadmill tonight, raining with snow on the ground. The combination spells disaster. It was long run day and there is nothing worse than a long run on a treadmill. This is the first run for the month of December. I ran 93km in the month of November. Should have been higher but the shin splints were slowing me down a bit. Ran 15 miles tonight in 2:03:09 for a pace of 8:13 min miles. Wore my new Pro-Tec Athletics Shin Splints compression wrap and that helped tramendously. Did some good stretching after and lots of ice when I got home. Will have to go back to orthotics place and see if there is something softer I can put in for when I run.

SNOW!!!

SnowWell today is a long run day and we’ve had quite a bit of snow. I’ll be going for my run later but unfortunatly it’s going to be on a treadmill at the gym. It’s a mixture of snow and rain at the moment and as the temperature drops it will ice over and I definatly can’t run in that in the dark, I’ll break something. There are three weeks left before the taper so need to keep the mileage up regardless of the weather conditions. I’ll try and do all my short runs at lunch in the cemetary near work. I’ll let you know how that plan works out.
