Well my nagging pains in my shins and now my right knee have sidelined me for a while. I’m going to have to scrap the Toronto Waterfront and concentrate soely on the goofy challenge. I will take the next three weeks to rest my legs completely, no running, lots of ice and working out upper body only with some swimming thrown in to try and maintain cardio. I will then begin the 18 week training program from week one, faithfully using the first 2-3 week as recovery as well. This should allow me to rebuild my legs and be in great shape for Florida. If you are following my log check back, I’m going to write about my leg recovery and tips and tricks. Hoping my pushing to hard might benifit others.

Ran along Stonechurch toward Prichard, my old path with all the hills. 5 mile run in 38.13 for a pace of 7:39 min miles. Legs feelt pretty good. Bit itchy along the shins but all in all pretty good. Heart rate down to 171bpm average.
Workout
Well went to gym tonight on a rest night. Did 20 min Olyptical and worked out back and tricepts. Not much to say, was quite tired and had to force myself to go. Will go for a run tomorrow and get back to where I was for this week.
Running Log :: Ran in Niagara Falls at Fathers place
Ran at my fathers home today. Much nicer, no smog in the country you know! Weather was good, great sun with lots of shade along the run. There was a good wind against me on the way out but it seemed to die down for the back portion. I ran a 5 mile there and back as I’m getting back after a couple lax weeks. Ran 5 miles in 37:44 for a pace of 7:33 minute miles. Average heart rate was 183 bpm. This was a bit high as usual is around 175 bpm for this type of run and pace.

Workout
Well I’m still being somewhat dogged by sore shins so this week as mentioned is intro back to running week so tonight was cross training session at the gym. Did 30 min olyptical for 473 cals and then worked out. Abs and chest. Will run tomorrow and try and get good 40 min in. Then short run Friday and try and do hour on Sunday for the long run. That should warm my shins up enough to try and get back to where I should be for the Toronto Waterfront at the end of September!
